Meta Platforms is set to sell $2 billion in data center assets to share AI infrastructure costs, according to Reuters. This move aims to bring in partners for data center co-development.

Meta Platforms is moving forward with plans to sell $2 billion in data center assets to share the costs of AI infrastructure, reports Reuters. This strategy is part of a broader trend among tech giants to collaborate with external partners to manage the high costs associated with building and maintaining data centers for AI applications.

The company disclosed in a recent filing that it intends to offload these assets as part of its efforts to co-develop data centers with financial partners. Meta's Chief Financial Officer, Susan Li, mentioned in a post-earnings conference call that while the company plans to fund much of its capital spending internally, some projects could benefit from significant external financing.

Meta has reclassified $2.04 billion worth of land and construction assets as held-for-sale, with plans to contribute these to a third party within the next year for co-development purposes. This move is expected to provide more flexibility in managing infrastructure needs as they evolve.
