Instructure and AWS Build AI Tools for Canvas Migration and Career Programs

Instructure will build AI powered tools for learning system migration and Canvas Career with support from the Amazon Web Services Education Equity Initiative, the company announced in a press release.

The migration tools are designed to help institutions move from legacy learning management systems, self managed open source systems, homegrown platforms, and other nonstandard systems to Canvas. Instructure said the work is aimed at institutions with limited IT resources that face high costs and technical barriers when moving away from older on premise systems.

The initiative will also expand Canvas Career for workforce development, continuing education, community colleges, public sector programs, vocational training centers, and adult learners. Planned capabilities include secure infrastructure for correctional facilities and remote environments, accessibility frameworks, AI powered skill mapping, credential and certification management, and employer tools linked to learning pathways.

Instructure aims to reach about 900,000 learners in the first year, including about 280,000 underserved learners. It said the program has a path to reach about 5.4 million learners over four years, including about 1.8 million underserved learners, with initial work focused on the United States, Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. The company plans to report progress publicly each quarter beginning in the second half of 2026.
