Infosys has secured a 15-year, £1.2 billion contract from the NHS Business Services Authority to develop the Future NHS Workforce Solution, replacing the current Electronic Staff Record system for 1.9 million employees across England and Wales.

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) has awarded Infosys a £1.2 billion, 15-year contract to deliver the Future NHS Workforce Solution, announced in a press release. The new system will replace the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) platform and manage payroll and workforce functions for 1.9 million NHS employees across England and Wales.

The platform will handle over £55 billion in annual payroll and provide an integrated, data-driven workforce management system. It will cover the entire employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll, career development, and retirement.

Infosys said the solution will incorporate AI-powered tools to streamline workforce planning and enable data-driven decision-making. The system will also allow NHS staff to manage personal information more efficiently and integrate seamlessly with other NHS systems.

According to NHSBSA Chief Executive Michael Brodie, the project is a key part of the NHS 10-Year Health Plan, designed to modernize workforce management and support the healthcare system’s long-term goals.
