Healthcare Leaders See Generative AI Transforming Revenue Cycle Management
A recent survey by Omega Healthcare, as announced in a press release, reveals that 85% of senior healthcare executives believe generative AI will significantly improve efficiencies in revenue cycle management (RCM) operations over the next five years. The study, conducted by Everest Group, highlights the growing trend of healthcare providers leveraging AI-enabled technology services to enhance financial performance and streamline revenue cycle processes.
The survey indicates a shift towards more strategic RCM outsourcing partnerships, with over half of healthcare leaders expecting an increase in RCM outsourcing budgets by 2030. Additionally, more than half of the respondents are actively exploring or testing generative AI use cases, with 22% already engaged in proof-of-concept initiatives.
Key generative AI applications identified by RCM leaders include real-time eligibility and benefits verification, claims data analysis, and the use of AI chatbots to resolve patient queries. However, challenges such as a lack of in-house expertise and integration barriers with existing electronic health records systems remain significant hurdles to adoption.
Looking ahead, RCM leaders are prioritizing investments in cybersecurity, payer collaboration, and AI-driven automation, with AI/ML investments expected to be a top priority by 2030.
