Deployable Energy and Hornbeck Offshore Plan Maritime Nuclear Battery Projects
Deployable Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hornbeck Offshore to explore Unity Nuclear Battery deployments in maritime, defense, offshore power, and floating data center uses, the companies announced in a press release.
Hornbeck Offshore also made a strategic investment in Deployable Energy. The companies plan to form a joint working group focused on vessel integration, project economics, licensing paths, financing, and commercial structures, with an initial focus on United States applications.
Deployable Energy describes Unity as a 1 MWe transportable microreactor designed for vessel integration. The company said it is built for refueling intervals of more than five years and can scale from single units to deployments with multiple units.
The companies said any deployment would depend on technical, commercial, and regulatory work, as well as final agreements. Deployable Energy also said its Unity demonstration reactor reached criticality on June 30, 2026.
