OpenAI Completes $7 Billion Employee Share Sale

OpenAI has completed a tender offer that let current and former employees sell about $7 billion of shares, valuing the company at $852 billion, according to Bloomberg.

The company bought back the shares from employees rather than using outside investors for the deal. The valuation matches OpenAI's most recent funding round.

OpenAI said in June that it had confidentially filed paperwork for an initial public offering. The company raised $122 billion from technology companies and venture capital firms in March.

OpenAI has used employee tender offers before. It completed a $6.6 billion offer at a $500 billion valuation in October and a $1.5 billion offer in 2024.
