Delta Electronics Organizes AI Coral Restoration Session at International Coral Reef Symposium
Delta Electronics became the first Taiwanese company to organize a dedicated session at the International Coral Reef Symposium (ICRS) in New Zealand, according to a press release. The symposium, held from July 19 to 24, gathered more than 2,000 experts from 93 countries to discuss global coral reef research and conservation.
The session, titled Driving Technology Innovation through Cross-sectoral Partnerships for Coral Reef Resilience and Restoration, brought together experts from academia, government, NGOs, and industry to explore how AI and emerging technologies can support coral reef restoration. Research presentations highlighted applications such as AI image recognition, digital twins, and regenerative materials designed to reduce sampling damage.
Professor Chang-Feng Dai, Chief Consultant of the Delta Coral Restoration Project, chaired the session alongside experts from National Sun Yat-sen University, the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, and the Delta Electronics Foundation. The discussions included using smartphones to create 3D models of reefs for large area monitoring and developing biocompatible materials for coral research.
Delta is also collaborating internationally to develop digital tools such as AI-based coral identification systems and the Coral Master Data Model. Through partnerships with institutions in the United States, Australia, and Singapore, the company continues to support technology applications aimed at strengthening coral ecosystem sustainability.
