Anthropic signed its first Australian data centre lease for a planned 2.16 gigawatt campus near Brisbane. The facility will support AI inference and is expected to begin operating in 2027.

Anthropic signed its first Australian data centre lease, covering a planned 2.16 gigawatt campus near Brisbane, two people familiar with the deal told Reuters. The proposed facility is expected to begin operating in 2027.

Singapore based developer Zerra DC plans to build the campus on farmland about 250 kilometres from Brisbane. The facility will handle AI inference rather than model training and will use a closed loop air cooling system to reduce demand for clean water.

Zerra DC would source renewable power agreements and cover grid connection costs. The lease remains subject to approval from Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board. Anthropic and Zerra DC declined to comment.
