Zalando unveils AI shopping agent for purchases from other retailers
Zalando unveiled its first AI shopping agent and plans to introduce AI assisted checkout in 2027, Reuters reports. The service will let customers buy products from other online retailers without leaving the Zalando app.
The checkout feature will operate through Zalando Extended, with AI agents helping customers complete purchases. Zalando is testing the service with home furnishings retailer Westwing.
Zalando also reported third quarter revenue of €3.17 billion, up 5.1% from a year earlier. Its gross profit margin fell 0.9 percentage points to 38.7%, which the company attributed mainly to discounts in its retail business, particularly for sneakers. Gross merchandise value rose 7.5% to €4.54 billion, and finance chief Anna Dimitrova called the margin pressure temporary.
