xAI Secures $20 Billion Funding with Nvidia's Support

xAI, the artificial intelligence startup founded by Elon Musk, is raising $20 billion in a new funding round, according to Bloomberg. The financing includes both equity and debt, structured through a special purpose vehicle that will purchase Nvidia processors for xAI's data center, Colossus 2.

Nvidia is contributing up to $2 billion to the equity portion of the deal. This strategic investment is part of a broader effort to accelerate AI development by providing necessary infrastructure. The funding is split into approximately $7.5 billion in equity and up to $12.5 billion in debt.

The unique financing structure involves buying Nvidia's graphics processing units (GPUs) and renting them to xAI, allowing the startup to leverage advanced computing power for its AI models. This approach not only supports xAI's growth but also exemplifies Nvidia's strategy to bolster AI investments across the industry.
