xAI Introduces Grok-Code-Fast-1 for Agentic Coding
xAI, founded by Elon Musk, has launched Grok-Code-Fast-1, a new agentic coding model designed to compete with industry leaders like OpenAI and Microsoft. The model is described as a 'speedy and economical reasoning model' and is available for free for a limited time on platforms such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and others.
Grok-Code-Fast-1 is built from scratch with a new architecture and trained on programming-rich datasets. It is optimized for agentic coding workflows, offering faster tool use and lower costs compared to existing options. The model is particularly adept at handling tasks in languages like TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, C++, and Go.
The model is generally available through the xAI API, with pricing set at $0.20 per million input tokens, $1.50 per million output tokens, and $0.02 per million cached tokens. xAI has emphasized the model's strong performance and affordability, making it a versatile choice for developers tackling common coding tasks.
