TurboML, a real-time machine learning platform based in San Francisco, has announced plans to invest $12 million in developing an AI foundational model specifically for Indian languages. The initiative aims to bring together AI researchers of Indian origin from around the world to collaborate on this project.

Siddharth Bhatia, co-founder of TurboML, revealed that discussions have already taken place with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in India. The team has also met with MeitY Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to outline their plans. The project is expected to be completed within eight months, with the investment cost accounting for the current commercial rate for GPU usage, which could be reduced under the MeitY subsidy scheme.
