Safe Superintelligence Raises $2 Billion, Valued at $32 Billion

Safe Superintelligence, co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, has secured $2 billion in funding, boosting its valuation to $32 billion, despite not yet having a product.

Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, has raised $2 billion for his new venture, Safe Superintelligence Inc., bringing the company's valuation to $32 billion. This funding round was led by Greenoaks, with contributions from major investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and DST Global. Notably, Alphabet and Nvidia have also backed the company.

Despite the significant financial backing, Safe Superintelligence has yet to release a product. The company, founded in June 2024, focuses on developing a safe superintelligent AI system. It operates from offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv and is currently utilizing Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) for its AI model development.

The startup's mission is to create a superintelligent AI that aligns with human values, a vision that subtly critiques the current trajectory of OpenAI. With around 20 employees globally, Safe Superintelligence remains lean but is expanding its presence, particularly in Tel Aviv, where it has recently hired local talent.
