Pony AI and Verne Begin Driverless Robotaxi Tests in Zagreb

Pony AI and Verne have started fully driverless passenger test rides on public roads in Zagreb, using a route spanning 22 kilometers.

Pony AI and Verne began fully driverless passenger test rides for their Zagreb robotaxi service launched with Uber, the companies announced in a press release. They describe the tests on public roads as the first of their kind in Europe.

Invited passengers can travel along a route spanning 22 kilometers between Verne's headquarters, a major Zagreb business district, and Franjo Tuđman Airport Zagreb. The companies plan to expand the route across the service's operating area in the coming months. The tests comply with Croatian regulations and required approvals.

The change is that the service ran commercially with a safety operator on board, and these rides have nobody in the driver's seat. The rides use Pony AI's seventh generation robotaxi, which includes a Level 4 domain controller built on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX and the safety certified DriveOS operating system, with 360 degree sensor coverage and fail operational redundancy. Verne's fleet is reported to have logged more than 200,000 operational kilometers since the service began in April 2026, with several thousand customer rides and an average passenger rating of 4.7 out of 5.
