Planet Classroom Episode Examines AI Climate Costs and Uses
Planet Classroom Network released an episode of AI for a Better World examining the energy and water use of AI infrastructure alongside its climate applications, the organization said in a press release.
Host C. M. (Cathy) Rubin speaks with Peter Gilmer, CEO of The Nest Campus. The discussion covers AI uses in electricity grids, Climate TRACE emissions monitoring, satellite tracking of deforestation and illegal fishing, and weather forecasting.
The episode also addresses investment in clean energy and energy security. Gilmer discusses local environmental projects for young people, including expanding urban tree cover and improving air quality. "We have to hold two things in our hand at the same time—scaling AI's benefits while addressing its environmental footprint," Gilmer said.
