OpenMind Secures $20 Million for Decentralized Robot OS
OpenMind, a Silicon Valley-based robotics and AI startup, has secured $20 million in a funding round led by Pantera Capital, with participation from Coinbase Ventures and other investors. The funds will be used to develop a decentralized operating system for robots, named FABRIC, which aims to enhance interoperability among AI-enabled machines, according to TechCrunch.
FABRIC is designed to be a hardware-agnostic platform that facilitates communication and coordination among robots, allowing them to integrate more seamlessly into everyday life. The system provides a trust layer that enables robots to work together, regardless of their manufacturer or location. This initiative is part of OpenMind's broader goal to make robotic intelligence as accessible and interoperable as the internet.
The company, founded by Stanford professor Jan Liphardt, is also preparing to launch its first fleet of OM1-powered robotic dogs by September. These robots will be deployed to gather user feedback, which will be used to iterate and improve the technology. OpenMind's approach emphasizes rapid testing and adaptation to align robot capabilities with human needs.
