OpenAI Acquires Team Behind Alex Codes

OpenAI has acquired the team behind Alex Codes, a tool designed to integrate AI models into Apple's Xcode development suite, according to TechCrunch. The team will join OpenAI's Codex division, which focuses on developing AI coding agents.
Founded in 2024, Alex Codes aimed to enhance coding for iOS and MacOS apps by embedding AI capabilities within Xcode. Despite Apple's recent updates allowing AI model integration directly into Xcode, Alex Codes managed to establish itself as a leading coding agent for Apple's platforms.
The transition to OpenAI means that while existing users of Alex Codes will continue to receive support, the app will no longer be available for download after October 1. The team has stated that no new features will be added, but maintenance will continue for current users. Founder Daniel Edrisian expressed pride in the team's achievements and excitement about continuing their work on a larger scale at OpenAI.
