OpenAgent Becomes SEC-Registered Transfer Agent for Tokenized Assets

February 16, 2026
OpenAssets has launched OpenAgent, the first SEC-registered transfer agent built specifically for tokenized asset markets, following new regulatory guidance allowing on-chain shareholder recordkeeping.

OpenAgent has become the first SEC-registered transfer agent designed specifically for tokenized asset markets, announced in a press release. Developed by OpenAssets, the platform integrates directly with blockchain infrastructure while maintaining compliance standards for regulated digital assets.

The registration follows new guidance from the SEC permitting transfer agents to maintain certain shareholder records on-chain, enabling tokenized securities to operate within established regulatory frameworks. OpenAgent provides issuers with compliant infrastructure for managing tokenized equities, fund shares, and other regulated assets.

Built on OpenAssets’ architecture, OpenAgent ensures interoperability with existing custody, clearing, and settlement systems to avoid vendor lock-in. It supports real-time posting, automated controls, and audit transparency while maintaining governance and compliance standards required by institutional and sovereign participants.
