Mantle Deploys ERC-8004 Standard to Enable On-Chain AI Identity and Trust
Mantle has deployed the ERC-8004 standard on its mainnet, introducing a trust and identity layer for autonomous AI agents, announced in a press release. The standard is designed to enable AI agents to function as independent economic participants within real-world asset, traditional finance, and decentralized finance ecosystems.
ERC-8004 establishes three on-chain registries: Identity, Reputation, and Validation. These registries allow agents to build verifiable records and reputations across multiple platforms, addressing prior limitations that kept agents isolated within individual ecosystems.
According to Mantle, the standard is backward-compatible and integrates with existing protocols such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP), Agent-to-Agent (A2A) communication, and the x402 payment standard. The company describes Ethereum as the settlement layer for AI and positions ERC-8004 as the foundation for an “Internet of Agents” enabling trustless autonomous finance.
