Novo Nordisk Foundation Funds Nordic AI Grid Research

Nov 3, 2026
The Novo Nordisk Foundation will award up to DKK 100 million to AI4GRIDS, a four year research initiative focused on using AI to improve Nordic power grid operations.

Novo Nordisk Foundation will award up to DKK 100 million (EUR 13.3 million) over four years to establish AI4GRIDS, it announced in a press release. The Nordic research initiative will develop AI tools to help power grid operators use existing infrastructure more efficiently, integrate renewable energy sources and respond to operational risks.

Technical University of Denmark will lead the project with Lund University in Sweden and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Researchers will combine AI with mathematical grid models to support safety critical decisions, improve power controllers and energy markets, and identify options for managing supply and demand.

The project will train more than 30 doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and other specialists. AI4GRIDS is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
