Mistral AI has introduced Codestral Embed, a state-of-the-art embedding model specialized for code retrieval and semantic understanding. This new model significantly outperforms existing solutions such as Voyage Code 3, Cohere Embed v4.0, and OpenAI's large embedding model.

Codestral Embed is optimized for various applications, including retrieval-augmented generation, semantic code search, and similarity search. It facilitates efficient context retrieval for tasks like code completion and editing, making it ideal for AI-powered software engineering tools. The model also supports semantic clustering and code analytics, aiding in repository analysis and automated documentation.

Available through Mistral AI's API, Codestral Embed offers flexible embedding dimensions and precisions, allowing users to balance retrieval quality and storage costs. The model is priced at $0.15 per million tokens, with a 50% discount available for batch API usage. For on-premises deployments, Mistral AI provides support through its applied AI team.
