Meta Secures 100MW Solar Power for South Carolina AI Data Center

Meta Platforms has signed a deal with Silicon Ranch to develop a 100MW solar farm in South Carolina, powering its upcoming AI data center entirely with renewable energy.

Meta Platforms has signed a deal with solar developer Silicon Ranch to develop a 100-megawatt solar farm in South Carolina, according to TechCrunch. This renewable energy project will power Meta's first AI data center in the state, which is expected to begin operations in 2027.

The solar farm, estimated to cost $100 million, will be constructed in partnership with South Carolina's Central Electric Power Cooperative. The facility will provide the necessary power to the data center, which is being built in the Sage Mill Industrial Park near Graniteville, Aiken County. The data center itself is projected to cost around $800 million and will be optimized for AI workloads.

This agreement marks the 18th collaboration between Meta and Silicon Ranch, highlighting Meta's ongoing commitment to renewable energy. The solar farm will utilize U.S.-made equipment, supporting local manufacturing and aligning with federal efforts to boost clean energy supply chains. This initiative is part of Meta's broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions across its operations by 2030.
