Meta Pauses Commercial Terms Covering Website Content
Meta has paused new commercial terms it had delayed until November 20, according to 404 Media.
The planned terms would have allowed Meta to collect content from domains, web pages, and URLs connected to business accounts. The language permitted Meta to use that material to provide, develop, improve, research, train, and maintain its products.
Meta initially planned to introduce the terms on October 30, 2026. After objections from publishers and users, it delayed them and, Nieman Lab reported, removed the word "train" and limited the covered uses to advertising and business products. A Norwegian court granted a temporary injunction suspending the terms, and the UK Competition and Markets Authority said it would investigate them.
The company says the changes will not take effect on November 20. Its existing terms remain in force while it consults stakeholders.
