US intelligence memo claimed Megaspeed executive was recruited to spy on Nvidia CEO, reports say
A memo circulated earlier this year claimed that technology executive Alice Huang was recruited by China's Ministry of State Security to spy on NVIDIA chief executive Jensen Huang, according to multiple media reports summarised by TechCrunch. The memo was reportedly based on US intelligence.
The New York Times, which had previously reported that Nvidia's chief executive had been a target of Chinese intelligence, was first to report on the memo. The Financial Times then reported that the memo also claimed Jensen Huang had a romantic relationship with Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed.
An Nvidia spokesperson told the Times that Jensen Huang's interactions with Alice Huang were "not unusual" and that the company does not share classified information with its customers. In a separate report, the Times examined New Matrix, a Chinese company authorised by the US Commerce Department to buy advanced Nvidia chips, and found only "a hollow gray shell" at its listed office address.
