April 20, 2026
Karsan's Autonomous e-ATAK bus has begun commercial passenger service in Sweden's Sälen-Idre region after receiving approval from the Swedish Transport Agency. The vehicle operated on a 4.8-kilometer route during the 2026 ski season under challenging winter conditions.

In a press release, Karsan announced that its Autonomous e-ATAK bus has entered commercial passenger service in Sweden's Sälen-Idre region. The deployment is part of the Sälen–Idre Autonomous Public Transportation Project (SIKTA), carried out with the municipalities of Malung-Sälen and Älvdalen, local businesses, and Dalarna University.

Testing began in January 2026 under real road conditions that included pedestrian interaction, mixed traffic, and heavy snowfall. After successful trials, the Swedish Transport Agency granted passenger transport approval on March 9, 2026.

The Autonomous e-ATAK operated on a 4.8 kilometer route connecting ski resort areas with accommodation points. The vehicle transported tourists throughout the peak ski season, demonstrating consistent performance in winter conditions.

Karsan CEO Okan Baş stated that the project represents one of the most comprehensive implementations of autonomous public transport in mountain tourism regions.
