Kansas City Deploys Drone Security Platform for FIFA World Cup 2026
The Kansas City Police Department has deployed a regional drone operations and counter-unmanned aircraft system platform ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, announced in a press release. The initiative is led in partnership with Airspace Link and DroneShield, and supported by regional public safety agencies across the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Funded through the federal Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Grant Program administered by the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, the system integrates Airspace Link’s AirHub Portal as the operational airspace coordination layer and DroneShield’s detection and threat response platform. This creates a unified framework for drone awareness, identification, and security across multiple jurisdictions.
The deployment supports coordination among police, fire departments, and other agencies, enabling shared oversight of authorized drone flights, emergency response, and live FAA airspace data. The system includes integration with public safety drone manufacturers and Drone as a First Responder workflows to allow real time coordination between airborne and ground teams.
DroneShield’s counter-UAS technology provides detection and mitigation capabilities, including Cyber-over-RF tools, to identify and respond to unauthorized drones. While designed to protect World Cup venues and fan zones, the system will remain in use for long-term urban airspace management as commercial and public drone operations expand in Kansas City.
