TIER IV Joins JST Program to Open Source Autonomous Driving AI Chip Designs

TIER IV has joined a Japan Science and Technology Agency semiconductor research program to develop open AI chip designs for Level 4 autonomous driving.

TIER IV has joined a Japan Science and Technology Agency semiconductor research program to develop an AI chip design for Level 4 autonomous driving, the company said in a press release.

The program is led by JST and includes a research team led by Professor Yoshihiro Kawahara of the Graduate School of Engineering at The University of Tokyo. The team will study use case driven physical AI chip design for autonomous driving.

TIER IV is developing the logic design for an AI chip that can process inference for E2E autonomous driving AI. The company plans to open source the design assets, compiler, and related toolchain.

The chip is being designed to support Autoware, an open source autonomous driving software platform. TIER IV will evaluate the chip design as part of a system on chip for Level 4 autonomous driving.
