Preferred Networks and Tenstorrent Selected for NEDO AI Processor Project
Preferred Networks and Tenstorrent said in a joint announcement that NEDO selected their proposal for a project focused on xPU design using integrated photonics and electronics. The research program will run for five years.
The companies will develop system integration technology for AI processors using photonics, advanced packaging and chiplets. Preferred Networks will develop AI chiplets with high memory bandwidth using 3D memory stacking, while Tenstorrent will develop CPU chiplets based on an open architecture with support for confidential computing.
The University of Tokyo, Kobe University, Toyo University, the Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology, and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency will research applications for scientific and physical AI. Tenstorrent Japan will work on CPU chiplet design and software for confidential computing. Preferred Networks and Tenstorrent plan to commercialize the research results for applications including AI agents.
