Oklahoma Guard Soldier Builds AI Tool to Review Awards Eligibility

An Oklahoma Army National Guard soldier built an AI tool during a Skillquest lab that is projected to save 61,000 work hours annually across the Guard.

Skillquest announced in a press release that Staff Sgt. Herbert Hailey of the Oklahoma Army National Guard built and deployed an AI tool projected to save 61,000 work hours annually across the Guard.

Hailey attended a two day Skillquest AI Readiness Lab in May 2026 with no prior platform experience. The tool was built on the Army's Vantage platform and automates review of military awards eligibility. Within the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, it removes 483 hours of administrative work per award cycle.

Maj. Christopher Hales also built a leadership data dashboard during the course. The dashboard is now operational and is projected to save hundreds of senior leader hours per year. Hailey and Hales were formally recognized for their work.

Skillquest coordinates AI Readiness Labs for National Guard and other military units across multiple states. The labs train participants to build working prototypes with organizational data in two days.
