South Korea’s HD Hyundai has signed a memorandum of understanding with Germany’s Siemens AG to accelerate the digital transformation of the U.S. shipbuilding industry, announced in a press release.

The partnership aims to enhance design quality, reduce production risks, and lower costs through the digitalization of ship design and the automation of assembly and installation processes. The companies will also optimize production, quality, and process management using data-driven technologies.

As part of the collaboration, HD Hyundai will send instructors to more than 30 Siemens training facilities across the U.S. to deliver hands-on education. It will also develop specialized engineering and digital design curricula in cooperation with universities including the University of Michigan and MIT.

The two companies have been jointly developing a manufacturing innovation platform since 2023 that integrates data from design to production within a single digital ecosystem. This platform supports virtual simulations to minimize trial and error and improve production outcomes.
