Google Reverses Plan to Link School Search Access to AI

Nov 4, 2026
Google will let schools enable Search without activating Gemini and other AI products, reversing a policy announced earlier the same day.

Google reversed a policy that would have denied Search to student accounts unless schools enabled its AI products, reports Government Technology. The company now says schools can activate Search without turning on Gemini or its other AI tools.

Google initially said Search and Gemini were deeply integrated, meaning both would remain unavailable until administrators enabled them. The company changed course on the afternoon of November 3, 2026, the same day as the announcement, after criticism from former FTC chair Lina Khan, Senator Bernie Sanders, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and education leaders. Google spokesman Davis Thompson said the two are "separate controls."

Search and Gemini will remain off by default for kindergarten through grade 12 student accounts. Administrators will have separate controls for each service.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
