Google Blocks Record 8.3 Billion Ads in 2025 Using Gemini AI
Google blocked a record 8.3 billion ads globally in 2025, up from 5.1 billion the previous year, reports TechCrunch. Despite the increase, the company suspended far fewer advertiser accounts, reflecting a shift toward targeting individual ads rather than entire accounts.
The company attributed the change to its growing use of AI, particularly its Gemini models, which detect and block policy-violating ads earlier and with greater precision. Google said its AI systems intercepted more than 99% of harmful ads before users saw them. Among the blocked ads and suspended accounts, 602 million ads and 4 million advertiser accounts were linked to scams.
In the United States, Google removed over 1.7 billion ads and suspended 3.3 million advertiser accounts in 2025, with ad network abuse and misrepresentation among the most common violations. In India, it blocked 483.7 million ads—nearly double the previous year—while account suspensions fell to 1.7 million from 2.9 million.
Keerat Sharma, Google’s vice president and general manager of ads privacy and safety, said the company’s AI-driven enforcement now operates “at a much more granular level,” reducing incorrect suspensions by 80% year over year. He added that advertiser verification processes and layered defenses have also helped prevent bad actors from creating new accounts.
