July 17, 2026
The Coalition for Health AI has launched PULSE, a national program to help public health agencies evaluate and implement generative AI. OpenAI and Anthropic are providing enterprise licenses, while Accenture will support with onboarding and best practice playbooks.

Coalition for Health AI has announced in a press release the launch of PULSE (Public health Use case and Learning Scaling Engine), a national initiative to help public health agencies evaluate, implement, and scale the use of generative AI responsibly. The program will work with state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments through pilot projects and shared learning.

As part of the initiative, OpenAI and Anthropic have donated 10 enterprise licenses with up to 2,000 seats for public health practitioners. Accenture will assist with onboarding and the development of playbooks that document best practices across five key use cases, including biosurveillance, social determinants of health mapping, operations efficiency, multilingual communication, and automated clinical data retrieval.

PULSE will select ten jurisdictions to participate in pilot programs starting in the fall, representing a range of geographic and organizational contexts. The initiative’s leadership council, composed of 17 cross-sector members, will oversee selection and implementation. The resulting playbooks are expected to be shared nationally next year to guide broader adoption.

Applications for participation are now open through August 7, with eligible entities including state, county, and tribal health departments as well as large city agencies.
