Tianjin University and United Imaging Unveil MRI Based BCI System
Tianjin University and United Imaging Healthcare jointly unveiled uMR ShenGuan, described as a full stack MRI based brain computer interface system, at a conference in Tianjin on August 23, 2026, announced in a press release.
The system is built on United Imaging uMR MRI systems and covers brain signal acquisition, decoding, neural modulation, and treatment evaluation. It supports MRI systems operating at 3.0T, 5.0T, and 9.4T.
According to the announcement, uMR ShenGuan can capture neural activity signals with millisecond level temporal resolution and measure brain structures with submillimeter precision. It also includes MRI hardware optimization, an MRI compatible BCI toolkit, and MRI guided neuromodulation technologies.
The two organizations also established an innovation alliance for MRI based BCI research. The alliance includes academia, hospitals, companies, and institutions, with work planned in multicenter research, clinical translation, standards, training, and academic exchange.
