OpenAI to Cut Off Cursor Model Access in November
OpenAI plans to stop providing its models to Cursor, the coding tool now owned by SpaceX, on November 12, 2026, reports Reuters.
OpenAI said it could not be confident that SpaceX would use its technology within its terms of service. The company cited its experience with Elon Musk companies and said X breached the terms of an OpenAI contract after Musk acquired the platform.
OpenAI said its agreement with Cursor allowed a limited period to cancel the contract after a change of control. SpaceX announced a $60 billion stock deal to buy Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, in June and completed the acquisition earlier this month.
Musk responded on X that he "couldn't care less" and accused OpenAI leaders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman of being untrustworthy. Cursor cofounder Michael Truell said the company was speaking with OpenAI to resolve the issue.
Anthropic said it plans to increase compute support for Claude models in Cursor. Anthropic has an existing partnership with SpaceX.
