Google to Build $15 Billion AI and Data Center Hub in India
Google announced a $15 billion investment to establish its first artificial intelligence hub in India, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project will be developed over five years from 2026 to 2030 and represents Google's largest investment in the country to date. The initiative includes the construction of a gigawatt-scale data center campus, advanced AI infrastructure, and a new subsea cable gateway.
The AI hub will be built in partnership with AdaniConneX and Airtel, combining data center capacity, fiber-optic connectivity, and clean energy systems. The facility will support high-performance computing for AI workloads and deliver low-latency services across India and other regions. It will also provide the infrastructure needed for businesses and research institutions to scale AI-driven solutions.
As part of the project, new international subsea cables will land in Visakhapatnam, connecting India to Google’s global network of terrestrial and subsea systems. The hub will operate on renewable energy, with investments planned in new transmission lines, clean energy generation, and energy storage in Andhra Pradesh. The development is expected to create thousands of jobs in technology, construction, and energy sectors.
When operational, the Visakhapatnam facility will join Google’s network of AI data centers across 12 countries, strengthening India’s position in global digital infrastructure and expanding access to AI capabilities nationwide.
