Elea and AXIA to Build Amazon Region's First AI Data Center in Belém

June 27, 2026
Elea Data Centers and AXIA Energia will build the first AI-focused data center in Brazil’s Amazon region, powered entirely by renewable energy and scheduled to start operations in 2027.

Elea Data Centers, in partnership with AXIA Energia, announced in a press release the construction of the first AI-focused data center in Brazil’s Amazon region. The facility, named BEL1, will be located in Belém, Pará, and is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2027.

BEL1 will start with an initial capacity of 7.5 megawatts, with plans to expand up to 100 megawatts in later phases. Elea will operate the site, while AXIA will provide a 100 percent renewable energy supply through a Power Purchase Agreement. The data center will be built near AXIA’s Miramar high-voltage substation to ensure stable power and support for future capacity growth.

The project aims to strengthen digital infrastructure in northern Brazil by offering an alternative route to the Fortaleza connectivity hub. Belém’s integration with the Norte Conectado program and its coastal fiber links to international systems position the city as an emerging connectivity hub for the region.

Elea operates a network of nine data center campuses across Brazil and has been expanding its AI-ready infrastructure initiatives, including the large-scale Rio AI City project. AXIA Energia manages 81 renewable energy plants and supplies 17 percent of Brazil’s total generation capacity.
