Further says 69% of companies investing in AI remain in exploration, experimentation or implementation, according to its 2026 enterprise AI maturity report. The consultancy surveyed 515 AI decision makers based in the US in October 2026.

The survey found that 77% of organizations report a positive return on AI investment. However, only 29% have completed a formal data audit, and 5% believe their data is ready for AI.

Governance and expertise also remain limited. Among respondents, 25% cannot explain or trust AI outputs, 36% lack internal AI expertise and 3% have a documented AI audit process. AI decision making sits with IT and data teams at 40% of organizations and executive leadership at 38%, while 7% have a center of excellence.
