BMW has partnered with Mistral AI to advance the use of artificial intelligence in vehicle crash simulation, according to a press release. The collaboration focuses on improving the speed, quality, and accuracy of crash analysis by training domain specific AI models on BMW’s proprietary engineering data.

The project uses more than one petabyte of historical crash simulation data to develop what the companies describe as Large Industry Models. These systems are designed to predict structural test results in seconds instead of hours, significantly reducing the time required for design validation. BMW runs thousands of virtual crash tests each week, and the new models are expected to streamline this process by approximating results more efficiently.

BMW’s Chief Information Officer Franz Decker said the combination of industrial data and Mistral’s training capabilities enables the creation of specialized AI that supports complex engineering tasks. Mistral’s Chief Revenue Officer Marjorie Janiewicz added that the partnership demonstrates how industry specific AI can address technical challenges such as crash simulation.

As reported by Automotive World, the collaboration is part of BMW’s wider effort to integrate AI into its engineering and manufacturing operations. The automaker has deployed AI systems in quality inspection and production planning, while Mistral continues to expand its industrial AI footprint across Europe.
