Blue Cross Blue Shield Association found that hospitals using AI tools to submit insurance claims added $942 million to US health care spending over two years, according to TechCrunch.

The analysis identified a sharp increase in patients documented as having complex conditions. BCBSA said there was no corresponding evidence that the care delivered had changed, indicating a gap between medical coding and treatment.

Abridge founder Shiv Rao said automated systems on both sides could lead to bots contesting bots, though they could also reduce costs. BCBSA senior vice president Luke Chalker said insurers were currently losing heavily in claim disputes involving these tools.
