Airbnb to Launch AI Travel Agent in First Half of 2027
Airbnb will launch its AI travel agent in the first half of 2027, according to TechCrunch. The company set the timing in its third-quarter shareholder letter. On the earnings call, CEO Brian Chesky said current AI agents are good at simple routine tasks such as restaurant reservations, but that planning a trip is different. The agent will create a visual interface based on each request rather than provide only a text response.
The interface can combine maps, photos, property comparisons, calendars and itineraries. Chesky described the system as a generative interface that selects components for a traveler's specific needs.
The agent will also assist with reservation changes, payment issues, refunds, rebooking and safety support. Airbnb plans to expand it over time to cover homes, hotels, services and experiences.
