ABB and Applied Digital Partner for AI-Ready Data Centers

ABB and Applied Digital have partnered to develop AI-ready data centers at a 400 MW campus in North Dakota, utilizing ABB's HiPerGuard UPS technology for enhanced efficiency and reliability.

ABB and Applied Digital have announced a partnership to develop AI-ready data centers at a 400 MW campus in North Dakota. This collaboration, announced in a press release, aims to address the power demands of AI technologies by implementing a new medium voltage power architecture.

Central to this partnership is ABB's HiPerGuard Medium Voltage Static Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), an industry-first technology designed to enhance power density and energy efficiency. This innovative solution allows data centers to scale more efficiently, expanding in 25 MW blocks, and reduces installation complexity by minimizing parts and cabling.

The partnership covers the complete design and development of the site's electrical infrastructure, optimized to improve the efficiency and resilience of major AI facilities. By transitioning from conventional low voltage systems to medium voltage, the data centers can achieve higher reliability and energy efficiency, crucial for supporting large-scale AI operations.
