Yubico Partners with OpenAI to Enforce Passkey Security for TAC Users
Yubico has partnered with OpenAI to support a new passkey requirement for users in OpenAI’s Trusted Access for Cyber (TAC) program, announced in a press release. Beginning June 1, 2026, individuals with access to OpenAI’s most advanced AI models will need to enable Advanced Account Security, which includes the use of hardware-backed passkeys such as YubiKeys.
The mandate is intended to strengthen authentication for developers and cybersecurity professionals working with sensitive codebases and AI agents. Yubico’s hardware keys will provide phishing-resistant protection and enterprise attestation options, allowing organizations to integrate with OpenAI’s authentication standards.
Yubico’s solution also includes zero-knowledge recovery through primary and backup key bundles, ensuring users maintain access without manual resets. The physical use of a YubiKey, such as a tap confirmation, will serve as a verification step for high-risk AI actions, confirming that actions are performed by an authenticated human operator.
The collaboration expands on Yubico’s existing partnership with OpenAI, aligning hardware security with AI access controls for TAC program participants.
