OpenGov Says Kansas City Increased Road Resurfacing With Asset Management Software

OpenGov said Kansas City, Missouri used its Enterprise Asset Management software to increase annual resurfacing and cut its projected road maintenance backlog by more than half. The company also listed new AI tools for public works teams, including request intake, scheduling, and an embedded assistant.

OpenGov announced in a press release that the City of Kansas City, Missouri used its Enterprise Asset Management software to change how it tracks infrastructure conditions and plans road work. The company said the system replaced spreadsheet based planning with scenario modeling, shared cloud based data, and public maps updated daily.

Before the rollout, Kansas City's pavement condition index was 52 out of 100, and rebuilding its 6,000 lane mile road network at the prior pace would have taken more than 30 years. OpenGov said deferred maintenance costs were projected to reach up to $4 billion within a decade, while crews spent about four hours a day on windshield surveys and spreadsheet entry.

After adoption, annual street maintenance funding rose from $20 million to $40 million, and resurfacing increased from 180 to 519 lane miles a year. Over three years, the city resurfaced more than 1,500 lane miles, eliminated more than 900 hours of manual survey work each year, and reduced its projected maintenance backlog by more than half.

OpenGov also listed new and expanded public works capabilities for its Public Service Platform at PWX 2026. The features include 311 Request Management with intake, translation, and form creation, permitting connected to infrastructure assets, Network Tracing and Valve Isolation for utility crews, AI powered Work Planner scheduling, Recreation Management, and OG Assist for querying maintenance history, work orders, and service requests.
