Viam and Kongsberg Partner to Enhance Sonar Technology with AI
Viam and Kongsberg Discovery have announced a partnership to integrate AI technology into Kongsberg's Simrad SY50 sonar, announced in a press release. This collaboration aims to enhance the capabilities of the sonar used in both commercial and recreational fishing.
The integration of Viam's AI technology allows users of the Simrad SY50 to translate complex sonar data into actionable insights and automatically adjust key settings. Viam AI was founded by Eliot Horowitz, former co-founder and CTO of MongoDB, and focuses on integrating AI, data, and automation into existing systems. The partnership with Kongsberg Discovery is expected to improve fishing efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance safety by providing better navigation and weather condition awareness.
