Unitree says GPT 6 lets robots paint and play chess without training

Nov 5, 2026
Unitree Robotics says its humanoid robots can use GPT 6 to paint pictures and play chess without prior task training.

Unitree Robotics founder Wang Xingxing said its humanoid robots can paint pictures and play chess without prior task training, according to the South China Morning Post. The robots use GPT 6 from OpenAI to plan and perform physical actions through real time model inference.

Wang presented videos at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai showing robots replacing brush water and blending pigments while painting. Unitree did not conduct a live demonstration on stage.

Wang said the industry’s biggest hurdle is now a “last-millimetre” mechanical gap between the AI model’s inputs and outputs, which he expects to be closed within one or two years. Unitree is also developing a feedback system that lets robots write code, run simulations and improve their performance on physical tasks.
