Uber Partners with Flytrex for Drone Deliveries
Uber is re-entering the drone delivery market through a new partnership with Israeli startup Flytrex, with pilot tests set to begin in U.S. markets by the end of 2025, according to TechCrunch. This collaboration marks Uber's renewed interest in drone technology, following its previous attempt in 2019 that was hindered by regulatory challenges.
Flytrex, which has completed over 200,000 deliveries in the U.S., brings its FAA-approved drones to the partnership. These drones are capable of carrying up to 3 kilograms and promise faster delivery times, potentially landing orders in under five minutes. The integration of drones into Uber's delivery network aims to reduce road congestion and emissions, offering a more efficient delivery solution.
The pilot program will initially focus on select U.S. markets, with the potential for expansion based on the outcomes of these tests. This initiative places Uber in competition with other companies like Amazon and DoorDash, which are also exploring drone delivery systems.
