Starship Technologies Raises $50 Million to Expand Autonomous Delivery Robots in U.S. Cities
Estonian-founded Starship Technologies has raised $50 million to expand its autonomous delivery robot network across cities in the United States. The funding round was led by Plural, with participation from Karma.vc, Latitude, Coefficient Capital, SmartCap, and Skaala.
The company stated the investment will accelerate its U.S. market expansion, grow its robot fleet, and strengthen partnerships with major retailers seeking autonomous delivery infrastructure. Starship has now raised more than $280 million in total funding.
Founded in 2014 by Skype co-founders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, Starship operates over 2,700 robots in more than 270 locations across seven countries. The company reports its robots have completed over nine million deliveries and currently perform two autonomous crossings per second.
Starship’s headquarters are in San Francisco, with engineering offices in Estonia and Finland and additional operations in the United Kingdom. The company plans to use the new funding to replicate its success in European cities and U.S. campuses across American urban markets, offering sub-30-minute delivery services to millions of consumers.
