Sawmills Launches AI Platform to Cut Observability Costs
Sawmills has emerged from stealth with $10 million in seed funding to tackle the rising costs of observability in enterprise systems, announced in a press release. The funding round was led by Team8, with participation from Mayfield and Alumni Ventures.
The platform, developed by former executives from New Relic, CloudBees, and Tricentis, uses AI to manage telemetry data, aiming to reduce costs and improve data quality. Sawmills' AI-powered system analyzes data streams to identify cost-saving opportunities and prevent system outages. It also offers vendor flexibility, allowing companies to switch observability vendors without disrupting their monitoring infrastructure.
Sawmills addresses the dual challenges of high costs and data quality issues in observability, which have become significant expenses for companies. The platform's intelligent routing capabilities direct data to cost-effective storage solutions, and its smart policies automatically enrich telemetry data and protect against unexpected cost spikes.
Early adopters, such as Via, have reported benefits in cost optimization and improved data governance. The platform is built on the OpenTelemetry Collector, enhancing this open-source standard with advanced AI capabilities for real-time processing and comprehensive control over observability strategies.
