Qualcomm to Acquire AI Software Firm Modular
Qualcomm Technologies has agreed to acquire Modular, an artificial intelligence software company, announced in a press release. The acquisition aims to strengthen Qualcomm's software capabilities for generative and agentic AI across data center and edge environments.
Modular provides an open software stack that enables AI models to run efficiently across different hardware types, including CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, and custom ASICs, without the need for code rewrites. The company was founded in 2022 and has developed tools that allow developers to deploy AI across multiple environments.
According to the announcement, combining Modular’s software platform with Qualcomm’s silicon technologies will help deliver more efficient and scalable AI systems. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said the acquisition supports the company’s goal of building open, developer-friendly platforms that operate across diverse compute environments. Modular CEO Chris Lattner stated that joining Qualcomm will accelerate the company’s mission to make AI development more accessible and efficient.
